Aligned is a personalised daily audio briefing service operated from Australia. We're committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data responsibly.

2. Data We Collect
Account Information
- Email address: For account access, notifications, and support
- Name: To personalise your briefings
- Password: Stored securely (hashed) by our authentication provider
Personalisation Data
- Topics: Subjects you want to learn about
- Goals: What you're trying to achieve
- Context: Background information you share about yourself
- Sources: RSS feeds and websites you add
- Calibration preferences: Your expertise level and framing preferences per topic
Usage Data
- Listening history: Which episodes you've played
- Feedback: Ratings and comments on episodes and stories
- Article history: Which articles have been covered in your episodes (to avoid repetition)
Payment Information
Payments are processed by Stripe. We don't store your credit card details — Stripe handles that securely. We only receive confirmation of successful payments and your subscription status.

4. Third-Party Services
We use trusted third-party services to operate Aligned:

5. Data Storage & Retention
- Account data: Stored on Supabase servers until you delete your account
- Audio files: Retained for 30 days, then automatically deleted
- Article history: Kept to prevent content repetition; deleted with your account
- Payment records: Retained by Stripe as required for financial compliance
6. What We Don't Do
- We don't sell your data to anyone
- We don't show ads or share data with advertisers
- We don't use tracking cookies — only essential authentication cookies
- We don't share your personal data with third parties except as described above
7. Cookies
We use minimal cookies:
- Authentication tokens: Stored by Supabase to keep you logged in
- Session data: Essential for the app to function
We don't use advertising cookies, analytics cookies, or any third-party tracking.
8. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your data: Request a copy of all data we hold about you
- Correct your data: Update your information in your account settings
- Delete your data: Request complete deletion of your account and all associated data
- Export your data: Request a portable copy of your data
- Withdraw consent: Stop using the service at any time

9. Data Security
We take security seriously:
- All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS)
- Passwords are securely hashed
- Database access is restricted and monitored
- We use row-level security to ensure users can only access their own data

We comply with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) as set out in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). This includes:
- Only collecting data that's necessary for our service
- Being transparent about how we use data
- Taking reasonable steps to protect personal information
- Providing access to and correction of your data on request

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated via email. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when the policy was last revised.
